Ascent Trip Report

This is an amazing test piece for your preperations for some of the big climbs in the Northwest. nearly 5000 feet of rise from the traihead, it is "relentless", and one of the ridges is names just that, relentless ridge.
From the parking lot, you head west along the side of I-84 for a few hundred yards. A trail will head up (southeast) just before the large waterfall. This trail is the one you want if you want to cut off about a mile of hard hiking . The other trail (we have done them both) is a bit past the waterfall and offers cool scenery and is worth the effort if you are certain you have the energy.
When we did it, it was so foggy that we were robbed of the views that are reported to be amazing, but it was still worth it as the ascent up this long and unforgiving trail is peaceful and gives back in beauty what it takes in sweat, even if you can't see more than 100 feet in any direction.
The summit is not the hightlight, as there is a large building and radio complex there. So the satisfaction of summiting is not topping out, it is knowing you did this one, and physically you can knock out just about any hike/climb of this length anywhere in the Northwest.
