Ascent Trip ReportThe route we chose was Lake Trail, Jimmy Fishing Trail, Kinsman Ridge Trail. We decided to go up the Kinsmans first and then over the Cannonballs and back down to the parking lot.
I would highly advise doing this route the other way around. The cannoballs were surprising more ascent than I was expecting especially the third that we crossed in this loop. Looping over the cannonballs from the Kinsmas you cross the ladders first and then have to descent over some moderately steep rock scrambles. It would be much easier to climb up the rocks and have the ladders to greet you on the way down :). Plus coming over the cannonballs from the cannon side of the mountain you'd tackle the hardest of the three first.
There were a TON of people on the trail up to Kinsman so we decided not to stop at the summit of North Kinsman and just push on to South Kinsman before breaking for lunch. This was a great idea as we practically had the summit to ourselved and it was a clear, beautiful day. The trails up Kinsman are not that difficult and very well maintain. The trails over to the cannonballs were a little muddier and the spider webs made it pretty obvious that they're not frequented very often. In all it made an interesting addition to the trip.
