Ascent Trip ReportOn a family holiday to Carinthia, we drove up Gerlitzen to admire the view and watch the paragliders (my two year old daughter is entranced by them). The summit is barely 100m from the car park, although possibly overtopped by a possibly artificial mound carrying the top station of one of the ski tows. The summit area is highly developed with numerous buildings of various purposes, but the view is good. Note there are two toll roads to drive up, only the one starting from near Arriach to the North (the Gerlitzen Gipfelstrasse) reaches the top. The other starting from the Ossiachersee to the south is called the Gerlitzen Alpenstrasse and tops out well below the summit. It is also possible to arrive at the summit using a cable car and chairlift combo, from the southwest. The Gipfelstrasse has a 7 Euro toll (July 2013), payable at an automatic toll barrier in coins, although there is a change machine accepting 5 and 10 Euro notes beside it. The road is about 12km long and well graded. The surface is tarmac, turning to good quality gravel for the last 1.5km or so.
