Ascent Trip Report

Josh and I left our house at 7:20am and headed to the Adirondacks. It rained for most of the drive, but cleared up a bit just as we got there. We arrived at the trailhead to Cascade at around 12:30 and decided to attempt a hike of Cascade and Porter with the remainder of the day since they were supposed to be a good half day hike. We left the car around 1:00. We thought this was going to be an easy hike, but we learned quickly that we misinterpreted short for easy. It was about a 6 mile round trip hike. We did Cascade first. The winds on top were the strongest we’ve ever experienced. They’d almost blow you right over. It was real overcast and the view wasn’t that great, but the winds were impressive. We had to put on some insulation and wind protection. Then it was off for Porter. It had cleared a little more by the time we got to the top, and the views were better. We got back to the car about 6:00, went and got checked into the Cascade Inn, and went to Lake Placid to find a place to eat. We ate at the Fireside Steakhouse, and headed back to the Inn.
