Ascent Trip Report

Turn onto Tacoma Cr Rd (past the US Air Force Survival Training Center). Peak #14, pages 40-41. 50 Hikes for Eastern WA’s Highest Mountains, Johnson, 2003. The 10 mile summit road has a reputation of being one of the worst. The good news is that the first 7 miles is currently being graded and graveled. At that point the road work heads right then to a gate where a new road has been pushed up and meets back up with the old summit road a few hundred feet below the top. The remaining public summit road is a punishingly steep rocky track. 4X4 needed. We drove to just below the summit. Good view in all directions, including the 49 Degrees North Ski Area just to the south.
