Ascent Trip Report

From the saddle with Matterhorn, we continued up the moderate to steep talus to the summit (see the Matterhorn trip report for info up to this point). Square Top was not difficult, nor did it have any spectacular features. It did have lots of swarming bugs, and was quite warm sitting there in the sun and getting crawled on. I was glad to leave!

From there, we headed down another steep talus slope to the north and headed for Jumbo. This was a bit steeper, but still not difficult. It was awkward, however. See the Jumbo trip report for the final part of the traverse.

Moving time up (from the Matterhorn saddle) was 21 minutes; down (to the Jumbo saddle) was 17 minutes.

GPS track shown is for the entire traverse.
