Ascent of Fortification Hill on 2005-11-12
|Date:||Saturday, November 12, 2005|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||3717 ft / 1132 m|
Ascent Trip ReportAfter Painter's cove, there is a sign on the road indicating four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended. So I parked and started hiking from there. The road part of the hike is trivial. At the main trailhead, the trail splits into two- one high trail to the right and a less-high trail to the left- take the left one. The right trail goes up and down along the ridgeline. The left trail keeps to the valley and gains the altitude more steadily. The trails unite in about a mile. After that, the route begins to get really tough and just gets worse until it comes to the base of the cliffs. It eventually weaves its way around to find an easy way up. Once on top, one still needs to cross the summit plateau, but that's a piece of cake since it's flat.
