Ascent Trip Report

We tried the lower road that goes west from the saddle above the town of Cerro Gordo. The road was technically OK, but rather freaky to drive- it was barely one lane, with maybe two places to turn around/pass in the 1.5 mile stretch we drove. Further, the road was tilted down-slope overlooking quite a bit of exposure. We stopped at the saddle between point 8288' and the radio facility south of Pleasant Point, which is right before the road descends 800' vertical. I can't say what the road does beyond that point (we lost all ambition for road exploration getting that far), but at least the road wasn't exposed.

As for our hike, we followed an old trail (shown on the topo map) that headed north but staying between 8300' and 8400' until coming to the drainage from the low point in the ridge. We followed this drainage (loose and steep, but not too bad) to the saddle. At the saddle we found a trail that led to the peak.
