Ascent Trip ReportORIENTATION/ACCLIMATIZATION HIKE
Yesterday, Rose and I arrived at our boundary peak base camp (NE of the peak) - the parking area at the very end, and the very, very rough, trail canyon road (should have a 4x4). I set up camp with a huge tarp over the car and eating area (for rain or sun). Met and talked to C Schultz, a highpointer from AZ, who had just come down from the summit, he suggested I take the trail canyon saddle route. He will be involved with AZ'S 2008 highpointer convention. He drove out .
8h00 - I left camp following instructions from "charlie and diane winger's guide book". After a while, as you climb up the valley, there is no trail. The trail canyon saddle is very clear in front of you, towards the west, and above a huge open meadow, with a lot of low brush. I choose a straight line to the saddle, picking up a trail on the final moderate climb to the saddle. A very beautifull dry area, a herd of wild horses grazing on the hill side ! ! they looked my way.
12hoo Back to camp for a lazy rest of the day. Two guys drove up in late PM, parked their truck and hiked up to a campsite further up in the meadows. I readied my gear for an early summit day.
