Ascent Trip Report

Day 2 of hiking for a long weekend in the Mt Baldy area!

Our friends from Monterey, CA drove down for a weekend of hiking at altitude in prep for our trip to Yosemite later this month. Our group included Nate, Jack, Hillary, Kai and Casey - they last two who were a spry 11 and 15. Spent the night at the Manker Flats campground and started our route up by 8:30 am.
Hiked from the campground to the TH and worked our way up the Ski Hut Trail. Approx 2 hours to the Ski Hut with a steady pace and breaks as needed. Another 2 hours and we all trickled onto the summit. Nate pulled out his radio and made his SOTA (Summits On The Air) contacts in just over an hour, and we had a nice lunch, took photos, and enjoyed the views. Left the summit at 1:45 and hiked down via the Devil's Backbone Trail to the Notch. QUick break at the Notch and then down the road, past the waterfall, and back to the campsite where we ate lots of yummy food, drank more beer than we should have, took fun photos and had a great time. Half Dome training complete!

Hooray!
