Ascent Trip ReportAs this was a last minute solo hike, I went up via the ski lift and then traversed Devil's Backbone. Despite my heights thing, I was able to get thru it...hiking poles really helped with the balance as the trail at places is one-way/no passing. Along the way up, I ventured up Mount Harwood. The trails were very busy with people. There was one group of 60 which really made a lot of noise. Plus add the usual 20-30 people at the summit; it was too crowded and noisy. So I continued on without stopping and hoofed over to West Baldy for a quiet lunch. I forgot to check the watch at the segments; I was at West Baldy in 2.75 hrs from the Notch (top of ski lift). I relaxed on West Baldy until the large group left Mount Baldy summit. I then hiked back to get photos from the summit. There was a sail plane (aka glider) that was doing acrobatic manuevers above the peak which was really cool. Also saw a fire-fighting DC-10 flying about level with peak a few miles away on route to do a drop on a fire about 25 miles away. I was back at the Notch in 1.5 hrs. The times included the slow-downs along the busy trail. Note: I had purchased the lift tickets online at 25% discount (than purchasing at the lift). I also saw about a hundred cars parked at Manker Flats so get there early if you choose that route.
