Ascent Trip ReportDAY #13 ---- GRILLED HAMBURGERS AND WINE ----
A very short, mostly downhill day, morning arrival at wesser NC, nantahala river, NOC, hostel. A very busy, touristy place w whitewater rafting being the main attraction.
After checking in at the hostel, I shopped at NOC, looking for gear that would LIGHTEN MY LOAD. I bought an alcohol/solid fuel stove, to replace my heavier whisperlite MSR (white gas), low socks & low gaiters (my high ones were too warm). I boxed my old gear and left it w NOC, for my son, Michael, to pick on the 30th, on his way to fontana dam, to drop off my grandson, Marcus.
Back at the hostel, I looked after my usual errands. 4 others in for the night. For dinner we were served GRILLED HAMBURGERS AND WINE, by Kerry & Steven. A NC couple, who comes up every year for 2 wks, providing this service to all thru hikers. "Trail Angels".
Chris came in late, I was in my bag & didn't chat, He was in the next room.
