Ascent Trip Report

Left the ASRC Parking lot at 9:45 am. Got on the trail a little later than we would have liked, considering the length of the hike. The first .8 mile from the parking lot to the top of Marble Mountain was the toughest of the day. Fairly steep ascent over loose rocky terrain. After a quick refueling on Marble, we continued on stopping at the cairn just before Lookout Mountain’s summit. From there we went on to the summit of Lookout and snapped a couple photos before the final push on the unmaintained trail to the summit of Esther. Reached the summit at 12. Enjoyed some sunshine with our lunch and headed back down about 20 minutes later. Back at the cairn, we figured it was just under 2 miles to the summit of Whiteface and the GPS told us we had just over 900 vertical feet to go. This part of the Wilmington trail was the muddiest of the day. Took a couple pictures by a ski lift on Whiteface, and enjoyed a few minutes to stretch out a bit. Just before and after the road were the steepest parts of the trail. These were made a bit tougher because there was still some snow and mud covered ice in spots. We reached the summit of Whiteface at 2 pm. We enjoyed all the views, although we could tell clouds were moving in so we had to make it a quick stop. Left Whiteface at 2:20 with 3.8 miles to get back to the cars at the ASRC parking lot. We made great time, making it back to the cars right at 4 pm. It’s fairly easy going down so we cruised all the way. We all had long drives ahead of us so we decided to get back as quickly as possible to shorten our day a little. Awesome hike. No bugs yet!
