Ascent Trip Report

This part of the Badlands was a former bombing range and there are signs warning to not touch any objects as they might explode. However, there have been cows grazing here, so I hoped that they had cleaned out any explosives that may be stepped on accidentally. Regardless, I stayed clear of the many pieces of rusted metal I saw on the rim of the Badlands. I parked just at the first "field driveway" at the top of the hill coming north from the intersection of BIA 2 and BIA 4 driving on the latter. It is almost straight across from an actual driveway going west to the only house around. I walked directly out to the point and took in the great vista. On the way back I walked around the rim, which surprisingly still had some snow spots on the south faces. Although not near Interior, this part of the Badlands is still spectacular. Next I headed east on BIA2 which offered more great views near the south visitor center, and offered a harrowing driving experience in deep sand on the "highway".
