Ascent Trip Report

day #67 enter the Shenandoah National Park .... Rockfish Gap to Blackrock Hut

Bill Gallagher Picked me up at 7h00 hours and dropped me off at Rockfish Gap, I had to force him to take 20$ for gas. Got a permit at Skyline Drive Entrance Station (forgot to leave the original in the box). T criss/crosses the Skyline Drive.
Caught up/passed "Slowpoke" at Turk gap, met him yesterday at the Outfitters, he tented on the T last night.
Met up with a small bear on side of trail (she went her way as soon as she saw me) not long before meeting sb'er "Sweatband" . I actually was a good distance past the side trail to the Hut when I met "Sweatband". Lucky for me that we chatted, he was going to the same Hut for the night. We walked back together, I learned from "Sweatband" that the directions at the different junctions are on the side of a concrete post !!!! I kept looking for a sign/arrow which never came.
We were later joined by "Slowpoke". Rattler apparently lives in the area, very often seen sunning at the water source !!! kept my eyes open.
The AT crew is completely redoing the fire pit in front of the hut. I roughly estimate/record each day's climb and to date I've climbed about 198,000 feet (37 miles).
