Ascent Trip ReportChimney Top Mountain is located in the Cumberland Mountains (Frozen Head State Park) of Tennessee. The Chimney Top Mountain Trail from the parking lot is fairly easy until the last half-mile or so. The trail along the summit ridge goes straight up the slope at a greater-than 45 degree angle. The main capstone is appx. 25 feet high, most of which is sheer rock. There is a rock fall on the east side of the capstone allowing for a gear-less climb, however. An opening at the north base of the capstone forms a natural rock shelter (there is a sign inside the shelter).
