Ascent Trip ReportDAY#80 ......... MET BILL AND GERRY MYERS Lousy trail day.
Shortly after leaving I climbed to a ridge, arriving at Shippensburg road, in Cumberland County. Prior to leaving I had decided to go over to the near-by Adams County High Point so I hid my pack and walked the road East (crossing into Adams County) about half a mile to a private driveway on the right. I continued up the long driveway, no one around ..... the High Point is to the left as you approach the house. I picked up my pack and went west on Shippensburg road for a short detour over Big Flat Fire Tower before continuing on North. After crossing hwy #34 the trail climbs a short distance to the east side of Trents Hill, hid my pack and wacked up.
The Trail has been very quiet this last week. Today I moved good except for the last 3 miles, rocky ridge with simply "ridiculous" muds - not a Trail, very dangerous especially if wet. It goes over/under huge boulders, ideal for playing youngsters. No reason for it. I believe the ATC designers are trying to punish the thru hiker, it was very hard not to curse. I call these sections "hardwack", like in "bushwack" meaning no trail/obstacles.
Met cyclists, Bill and Gerry Myers, at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, out for a day ride. They are super nice avid cyclists, having criss/crossed the USA, plus they've biked all over Europe. They both love their Cannondale - I also have a Cannondale that I used on my XCanada tour. They invited me into their home for tomorrow night, they'll pick me up at 16:30 hrs at PA944 TH.
Bottom of my feet are sore, hands getting worse, having a hard time sleeping cause of pain in my arms. I use my Lekis only when required.
