Ascent Trip ReportToday is AT day 95, Vernon, NJ.
Sunny, easy long day, moved well (23.2 miles, 2.8 mph). From the Rutherford shelter it is a short hike to the highest summit of NJ- Highpoint Monument (Rose and I were first here in 1994-05-26).From here the eb trail is mostly downhill, a flat section on an old rr bed, goes around "wallkill national wildlife preserve" (former sod farm),some undulation with only one good climb (900 ft) up to Pochuck Mountain. I got out at Rte NJ94 and hitchhiked to the Appalachian Hotel, right 1.5 miles, just north of Vernon, nice place on top of a bump, 79$. My morning plan was to stop at a B&B in Glenwood for a shorter day , however it was much too expensive(140$) so I pushed on.
Didn't meet any sb'ers today
My poison ivy has not dried up and doesn't look good, tomorrow I will take a zero day and go into town to resupply and get my prednisone prescription refilled. Luckily the prescription can be refilled so I wont have to see a doctor.
My carpel tunnel problem on both hands is a real problem - pins and needles with sore forearms. It keeps me awake at nights and at times I have to get up and walk around in order to relieve the pain. Also the balls of my feet are completely numb from the constant pounding. Luckily there is only 2 weeks to go !!!!
I enjoyed today's variety.
Called Rose, ordered pizza and a salad. Cleaning lady has to go in town in the morning, offered me a ride (will go to pharmacy and groceries).
Tommorow is our 47th wedding anniversary.
