Ascent Trip ReportOn a business trip to Berlin with a couple of hours to spare, I picked up a rental car at Schönefeld airport and drove round to the Müggelberg. The access roads were covered in snow and difficult to drive but I could make it as far as the Müggelturm, a dilapidated viewing tower reminscent of the cold war ear. Amazingly I could pay Euro1.50 at a snack kiosk to get a key to open the padlock and climb the stairs. I was the only one around. The summit of the Müggelberg can be seen covered in trees, and with a couple of buildings. Proceeding towards there along the ridge on foot through the snow, it turned out the true summit was a few 100m behind these on a side path marked with a sign declaring it the highest point in Berlin. The weather was freezing and with snow forecast for later and another highpoint to fit in I jogged back to the car and got going.
