Ascent Trip Report

Photos posted here:

Started at the Manitoba trailhead at 8:45am in clear and cold weather about -5F. Skied up the Manitoba trail and continued along the overgrown old mining road into the Mill Creek drainage, followed Mills Creek to 2500' elevation and headed east into a small basin and continued up the upper slopes of El Tercero gaining the West Ridge at 4900 feet to the east of Point 5070'. Here the winds picked up and with temperatures around 5F above we spent a short time on the summit enjoying the amazing views from Seward and Caines Head to the south, and Denali to the north with the amazing expanse of the Kenai Mountains and Chugach Mountains stretched out before us. An awesome sea of mountains! We were on the summit at 3pm.

We left the summit at 3:30pm and skied down the line of ascent making great turns in powder snow on the lower slopes. The upper slopes were pretty wind affected and not the best skiing. We were able to double pole out to nearly Timberline Creek, then we had to put the climb skins back on and make the undulating ski out through the alders. Back at the car at 7:15pm.

Awesome day with my great friend Danielle Pratt.
