Ascent Trip Report

The highpoint of the Campsie Fells, climbed on a visit home to Scotland. Sunday morning was cloudier than the day before but not too bad. The drive to Gelngoyne distillery took about 45 minutes from my friend Gareth's house in Johnstone where I'd stayed the night before. Meeting my brother Jai at the foot of the hill, we set off up the usual and obvious route up Dumgoyne, which was mercifully not slippy after nearly two weeks without rain (very rare in Scotland). From Dumgoyne, an equally obvious path leads down to the col, then along the escarpment, over a couple of minor hummocks, including Garloch Hill, then shortly southeast to the actual summit with the traditional cylindrical trig point. On the return journey we varied the route by taking in Dumfoyne, for the fine view of Dumgoyne.
