Ascent Trip ReportI came to New Zealand for an 18 Day hiking trip primarily because of a free airline ticket that I won while on a previous business trip. I would hike the Milford/Kepler/Routeburn Tracks (in Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks) plus a side trip to the Mount Cook area.
Today is Day 4 of my 18 Day trip and the start of the Milford Track in Fiordland National Park ..... I would do the 53km (plus side trips) Milford Track in 4 days. It is a beautiful track, however it was generally agreed by my track friends that it is not as advertised "the finest walk in the world". The Track's highlights is the climb over the McKinnon Pass with its Kea birds and the Sutherland Falls.
From Te Anau I bussed to Te Anau Downs where I took a boat across Te Anau Lake to the start of the walk at the Glade Wharf and again a boat at the end of the 4 day walk from Sand Fly Point to Milford Sound. I bussed back to Te Anau for tomorrow's start on the Kepler Track.
