Ascent Trip Report

This is my 14th Day of my 18 Day trip to New Zealand. This morning I bussed to Mount Cook Village and got a bed at the YHA for a 2 Day stay.
The ride here is most interesting ..... the deep Kawarau River Gorge with its gold mining, the flat valley north of Cromwell with its fruit and vegetables, Lake Pukaki (reservoir) with a power plant and its green/milky water color due to the movement of the Glacier as it grinds the rocks.

In the afternoon I did a solo tough/steep 1000M climb to Mueller Hut(1768M) (on the ridge north of Ollivier) steps/loose rocks/huge boulders to negotiate/on all 4s. Wanted to go on to the summit, but it was getting late, not a good idea, so I descended.

Tomorrow morning I rented a bike and cycled to the Tasman Glacier for a 35km total ride. I hiked to the top of the side moraine to view the Glacier, you don't see the ice for the gravel falling from the high peaks, looks like a huge gravel quarry pit "Incredible power of nature".

On Day 16 (March 15) I bussed to Christ Church YHA Rolleston House where I played tourist for 2 days before flying/arriving back home on March 18 (in the morning due to time change) which is Rose's birthday.

Rose picked me up at the airport with our first grandson Stephen, once home we went over to Michael and Celine's to see our new (4th) grandson "Patrick"..... A real cute guy.

"IT'S VERY NICE TO GO TRAVELING,
BUT IT'S OH SO NICE TO COME HOME." ..... Frank Sinatra.
