Ascent of Peak 3494 on 2013-02-02
|Date:||Saturday, February 2, 2013|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||3494 ft / 1064 m|
Ascent Trip ReportHike up from Pine Creek about 3 miles east of the Clarno district John Day Fossil Beds. The land here belongs to a nature conservancy so no worries about trespassing. Followed a ridgeline on the way up, and found an abandoned road in the bottom of a draw on the way out. This would be a nice hike in the spring when the grass is green and the flowers are out, but was fairly dreary here on the 2nd of February. Hood, Jefferson, and Three Finger Jack visible from summit.
For anyone else doing this one, I would recommend following the old 4x4 road which appears on the topo as a dashed line leading up a draw from Pine Creek NNW of the mountain. Follow that old road to its end then gain and walk the north ridgeline to summit.
