Ascent Trip ReportA herd path hike over 3 Peaks ...... 10 miles, 7h30 hours RT.
Rose and I drove down yesterday, we climbed Mount Van Hoevenburg via the bobsled run, overnighted at the White Sled Motel on rte 73, just south on road to Heart Lake. This morning Rose dropped me off at Heart Lake, she'll spend the day in Lake Placid.
7h30 ... left TH at ADK LOJ on Indian Pass Trail after signing register. To Indian Pass brook where I took the herd path up the first tributary to the west.
9h50 ... NYE MOUNTAIN summit, wooded no views whatsoever, signed register, after a short snack break left sb on herd path
10H30 ... NYE MOUNTAIN-SOUTH PEAK SUMMIT continued sb on herd path.
11h00 ... STREET summit, wooded with only views to the south, herd path to here fairly clear except for a short stretch in col, signed register.
On the descent I stupidly got off the path and lost all sense of directions so decided to bushwack back to the summit and start all over. I backtracked to the TH.
15h00 ... out at TH. I didn't see Rose, only after an hour did I find out she was waiting just down the road for the whole time.
We drove home, had dinner in Candiac.
