Ascent Trip ReportHad a conference in San Antonio and some time to kill. Drove out to Van Horn, ate at Chuy's (John Madden loves this place). Woke up early and drove to Guadalupe, crossing into Mountain Time on the way...which meant that I would be heading up the mountain without beta, as the National Park opened around 9. Saw a Ringtail on the way...amazing! On the trail at 7:50, snowy and icy above 7000 feet. Very cool hike, as you move onto the north facing slopes, you change temperate zones...it becomes a pine forest. Hike back to where the sun hits, high desert. Made the summit after 4 hours, going slow due to the ice. Took a leisurely descent, made it back to the car around 3.
