Ascent Trip Report

If you do this route via Sunol Wilderness Park, the gate is open 8am - 5pm, so don't dawdle! Signs indicate that cars left in the lot after 5pm will be cited, but I was back at the car long before that became an issue. Of note, I descended a bit further east than my ascent. This put me behind a gate labelled "no trespassing," however there were no signs indicating this above when I left the Ohlone Wilderness Trail to take a random dirt road down. If I had known about this area being off limits, I wouldn't have gone down there. Gate 3 on the gpx track is also labelled "no trespassing" but if you follow the official trail you are looking at an extra 800 ft of pointless gain, so in this case I didn't care. With the exception of the main dirt road from the parking lot, I didn't see any people from the time I split off on to Backpack Rd until I returned to the main road.
