Ascent Trip ReportGood hike. FYI, this can be a quick hike if you come in via BLM's "Tin Can Alley" roads from the east. "Doran Scenic Drive" is a misnomer...this is a SERIOUS jeep trail with the western loop of it only being suitable for highly modified rock crawlers. The eastern loop is also rather serious 4x4ing where you will have to walk once to reach the slot canyon. I attempted this first and quickly realized this was out of my crossover (or even many a 4x4s) realm of possibility. After some quick research on the Gaia GPS app (via Itunes)(using the OpenCycleMap layer), I figured that there must be better roads to the east, so I backed out, hit I-15 and got off at the "Early Man Site" exit.
It ends up that the road I used was excellent (maintained very well by the communications company methinks), although it is an open BLM trail/road up to the gate for the mountain. I did follow the power line road that you will cross back to the Early Man I-15 exit on egress. Also doable, but a bit rougher than the below.
A couple of points to reference :
1) BLM Early Man Site: N34.55.1953 W116.45.8304
2) Turn left prior to Early Man and continue until reaching Tin Can: N34.56.0280 W116.45.9796
3) Tin Can Alley--follow to the gate: N34.57.3514 W116.48.5679
4) Approximate location of gate: N34.58.3695 W116.50.8185
Made it to the top without issue, signed the register, and headed off to do 3370 and some caching.
