Ascent Trip Report

A clear winter day in the high thirties. Started at trailhead at beginning of Taos Canyon on US 64. Trail climbs slowly for the first 0.8 mi.--only 270 feet elevation gain, then about 14% grade up to an overlook at about 8170 feet. Up to that point the snow had been tamped down by many hikers, but it looked to me like only one or two people had gone beyond this point recently. The show got deeper and I found it a bit tiring, so I turned around at a point about 3/4 of the way to the junction with the Ojitos trail my usual destination. This trail is convenient to Taos, well-maintained and offers striking views.
