Ascent Trip Report

With snow in the Wasatch and a short day, we drove out to Antelope to walk up Frary Peak. On the Island, which is a state peak, there are Bison! We saw a couple on the drive to the trail head. From there it was an easy climb to Dooley Knob and from there we gained another 1500 feet of elevation to an antenna near the top of Frary Peak. A quarter mile or so of somewhat rougher trail followed and we were on the top.

The landscape is stark and barren. There is a band of Sage part way up and a few Junipers at the top, but otherwise it is a grassy, rocky moonscape with views out over the Salt Lake toward the west and population centers to the east and south. I expect that the peak gets some snow in winter, but we only saw a couple small patches. It has also been a somewhat dry and warm season thus far.
