Ascent Trip Report

The second hike of the Summer/Fall Season. My son Trey was my hiking buddy. Much easier than the last hike (Mt. Whiteface). Weather: 40-55 degrees depending on altitude, overcast mostly - but with some rays of sun occasionally peaking out. Started at the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge (run by the Dartmouth Outing Club). Outstanding facility - must return. We took Gorge Brook up (2 hours 35 minutes). Steady relatively easy climb - no big surprises. Like always, slippery when wet on rocks. Summit view was spectacular, above tree line. 360 degrees. Neat windbreaks made by travelers (thank god, or we would have frozen when we ate lunch). Saw many friendly hikers coming and going (I assume related to DOC). Took Carriage Road to Snapper Trail on return - 1 hour 50 minutes). Great day. Stopped by lodge around 6:15 in time to see big dinner being served. Wished we could have stayed. School for Trey beckons!
