Ascent Trip Report

A superb walk from the railway station on the lakeside at Brienz through woodland to Planalp, and then over open high alp and mountain terrain to the summit. Most walkers go the other way, taking the cog railway to the summit ridge, visiting the summit and then walking down to Planalp or Brienz. The walk up is easy and rewarding, with outstanding views over the blue Brienzersee and the mountains of the Bernese Oberland, but the 6,000' ascent made me appreciate a steam train ride back down!
