Ascent Trip ReportWatched the video and got my recreation card. The Japanese Army has been training here and there were a lot of Japanese troops around the facilities area.
Range Control gave me directions to Hog Ranch Butte but I had to show him the correct way to get there. You should see a sign at the turn off from the main trunk road. Also, be aware that you make a sharp right at Range Control to get on the trunk road. The watchstander did give me some advice on other scenic spots to drive to. I was advised that "hunter orange" is recommended for all walkers, but only required for hunters.
The correct road for HRB is car drivable to the summit. While I was on top, I heard a couple of booms and looked north to see two large explosion clouds rolling up from the landscape.
After HRB, I continued on to Yakima Ridge.
