Ascent Trip Report

Prep work for annual Helen's Gig. Used a teaching ground for new climbers wanting to learn to self arrest and other mountaineering skills prior to Helen's Gig: winter wonderland. Good day; blue-bird skies; a bit dicy on direct-route approach with cracks and avalanche risk in early AM. Ice ax required; crampons brought, but did not use, owing to not all in party having them and manageable without, overall. Would use crampons if available next go. Good team x 5 men; all with good sense of humor! Thank you Mike for skills brush up with self-arrest simulations with weighted packs and adding in the unpredictable-fall-'caddywampus'-style, rather than 'planned falls' into self arrest...very educational indeed :-)
