Ascent Trip ReportIt was my first hike with the "Over 50 Hiking Meetup Group". really enjoyed hiking with the group - everyone was very pleasant to be around and I didn't feel like I was holding up the group although I was one of the last members to reach the top - but not the last. The group is very well organized with contingency plans and an ethos of leave no one behind.
This climb was a lot harder than in looks on paper. We started at Lafayette campground and used the Lonsome Lake, Hi-Cannon, and Kinsman Ridge trails. The trails are a lot of steep broken up by two flat sections. You climb right up the face of Cannon constantly switching back, so you're always looking down at Rt 3 going through the notch. I could see my car in the parking lot every time I had a view!
It was very hot and humid for this climb making hydration challenge. However, I'm very sensitive to dehydration, so I managed to stay on top it. But I drank over 2 liters of water on the way up.
