Ascent Trip Report

A short loop trail to an outstanding rock ledge ..... .5 miles, 30 minutes RT.

I decided to check out this peak (not in the PB data base), I added it as a provisional peak for Greg's approval.
From the entrance/Ranger Station noted in Mount Blue TR, I drove/climbed the paved road to the open parking, complete with picnic facilities and great views to the northwest, just below the summit.

A short .5 mile loop trail leaves this area for the summit. A self-guide pamphlet available at the TH gives an insight into the historical/vegetation explanation of this area at 11 numbered wooden posts alongside the trail. The trail goes by a small bog on the summit.

The summit is the outstanding open rock ledge at post #5 with a super 180 degree panorama to the west overlooking Webb Lake and the mountain ranges across the valley, my GPS 44.72567,-70.40820.
An area to the northeast 100 yards inside the dense/deadfall woods contends for the HP, I chose my spot there at GPS 44.72614,-70.40755.

Moose Fact .... Moose are the State Animal of Maine and the largest of all deer species.

After this climb I found my way north to Hwy 201, designated Federal Scenic Byway, aptly named Old Canada Road, to the Mount Coburn area (south of Jackman) where I found a free primitive campsite in the Plum Creek Forest Lands. Its location is in the Coburn TR.

"IN THE MOUNTAINS THE SHORTEST WAY IS FROM PEAK TO PEAK ..... BUT FOR THAT YOU MUST HAVE LONG LEGS."
