Ascent Trip ReportLe Roignais, 2995m, P1028
Map: 1:25k: 3532OT
Stats: 350mH, 5km
Time: 29 Aug 06
Start: from southeast, Le Céré, 1852m, park by farm entrance
Route: hike the mapped road NW (becomes track), then ascend steep combe, grassy at first, stony higher up. The intention was to follow the combe until NE of the summit, then climb steep slopes from there to a col just NW of the summit, following the only info I’d found from the web: http://alpinisme.camptocamp.com/guide.html?reason=sdetail&ids=3828 However the weather turned wet, the cloud was low and there is no mapped path, and it didn’t look like the kind of route to do in those conditions, so I turned back at about 2200m.
Difficulties: finding the start point isn’t easy: network of narrow roads. Approach isn’t on map 3532OT so I was using 1:100k map. The route itself was graded F (31 Oct 2004) under snow: grade without snow unknown but likely to involve at least some scrambling, probably not very hard. Not in any of my guide books.
