Ascent Trip ReportAs far as I can determine, Williams Hill is the 8th highest named summit point in Illinois. My son, Marshall, and I found a confusing sign on the summit of Williams Hill after we reached the top. The sign looked new and it read, "WILLIAMS HILL ELEVATION 1,064 FT. 2ND HIGHEST POINT IN ILLINOIS." This, of course is far from the truth and, unfortunately, the sign looks like it was paid for with taxpayer money. It does make a nice place, however, for a summit photo, despite the inaccurate information and the fact that this spot is definitely not located at the highest point on Williams Hill. The summit has several communication towers and the trees prevent any views. In addition, we were unable to locate any summit benchmarks, but it is a nice easy peakbagger grab.
