Ascent of Lookout Tower Hill on 2012-08-25
|Date:||Saturday, August 25, 2012|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Lookout Tower Hill|
| Elevation:||9165 ft / 2793 m|
Ascent Trip ReportWe ascended this on our way into the park, from the N entrance. Although the trail started immediatately behind the entrance desk the ranger on duty was less than helpful, suggesting we inquire at the visitor centre some 12 miles distant.
Using the GPS we determined the location of the trail-head, parked, and followed the Arizona trail E through forest to the summit.
There was the abandoned, decaying hut of an environmental activist on the summit, with the dessicated body of a porcupine inside, which had been there over a decade, and also a firetower, which we ascended, allowing views of the South Rim, and Humphrey's Peak/San Francisco Mountain to the S, as the top of the tower was several metres higher than the tallest trees.
