Ascent Trip ReportOn highway 60 between Miami and Globe go south on state highway 88 at the stoplight. After 0.3 miles go right on Russell Road and after 1.6 miles the pavement ends. There are three cattle guards to cross before you reach a junction on a ridge at 6.3 miles with a sign "Pinal Mtn." Turn right onto forest road 651 which eventually leads to the summit. After 11.6 miles pass by the Sulfide del Rey picnic area on your left. Then at 11.8 miles turn left at a junction with route 580 on your right. Take the left fork at another junction at 15.4 miles that was not well marked at the time. Then at 16.5 miles there is a road to the right with a locked gate which is Forest Road 651B that goes 0.5 miles to Signal Peak. It appears that it would be OK to walk or mountain bike this road to the summit which is a radio reapeater site. 5/97 RLC
