Ascent Trip Report

My hike to Mount Mitchell was actually a return trip via the Deep Gap Trail from Big Tom and Mount Craig. Of course, the route would have only been an ascent back to the parking area below the summit. Since the peak of Mount Mitchell was closed due to construction of a new observation deck, I couldn't make the full climb. That didn't matter though as I had already been on the summit during a previous trip. The trip down from the mountain would have been out of the park itself, therefore by vehicle back to the main entrance at the Blue Ridge Parkway. "Drive up" summits are usually not fun for hikers, but if one can get at a one-way directional hike from another point, it tends to help some.
