Ascent Trip ReportFrom Route 25, I turned south on Green Mountain Road, and then headed east on Highwatch Road. It eventually turns into a Class VI road, which I was able to drive over without 4WD for a short distance to the trailhead parking area.
I took the High Watch Trail up to the Green Mountain firetower. I encountered a brief, heavy downpour on the way up, but then the rain moved on, and the sky partially cleared. The view from the firetower was nice, with the distant scenery accented by rays of sunlight that poked through small breaks in the mostly overcast sky. I also saw early hints of fall color on the trees near the firetower. It's always bittersweet; as much as I love fall weather, I'm always a little sad when summer draws to a close.
