Ascent Trip ReportWe left I-15 at the Basin exit and headed up on the eastern side of the mountain - Cataract Creek road to Uncle Sam Basin road to a maze of mining roads to the summit road. This route worked, and is advisable if you like 4-wheeling. But you should have sturdy tires or several spares.
We came down on the western side - summit road to Jack Creek road to Basin Creek road. This is the way you should drive up. You will need clearance and probably 4WD to get up the spur to the top, but Basin Creek road is excellent gravel and Jack Creek road had just a few rough patches - I could have gotten my old Honda Accord to the turnoff for the peak, I think.
