Ascent Trip ReportIn the past we've used the Weatherford Trail to Mount Humphreys as an extended altitude hike. The downside is--the downside. Once you've summited it's a LONG way back to the trailhead and seems to take forever--just empty miles.
This time we decided to take Weatherford up and down the front side--saving a number of downhill miles. Mount Humphreys trail, once you reach the saddle is the same whether you go up the front or the back. And it is also the toughest part of the trail--with a sketchy trail and plenty of large rocks to climb, it is a good cardio work out. Trip up went well and we decided to high-tail it down as the clouds moved in. The pedestrian traffic, which is not an issue on Weatherford, was pretty high going down the front side. Kind of a slow traffic jam that sped up considerably as lightning was striking nearby. It had obviously rained on the lower part of the trail as rocks were wet, muddy, and slippery.
