Ascent Trip Report

Our group drove in as far as we could on the road to the Red Lake trailhead, then backpacked up to the trailhead and then followed the trail up to Red Lake. Later in the afternoon, Rick and I made an unsuccessful attempt to climb Mount Tinemaha. The next morning, our group cramponed up to Red Lake Pass, running into three famous SPS's, Duane McRuer, Doug Mantle and Bill Russell on their way down from who knows where. Once at the pass, we climbed up Split's class 2 north slope to the summit. Afterwards, our group dropped back down to Red Lake Pass, then climbed Mount Prater via its class 1 southeast ridge, making an attention getting 3' step across move on the way up to the top. Later, we returned to Red Lake. On day three, our group backpacked out to Al's truck.
