Dent de Cons, 2062, P1155m; Pointe de la Sellive, 1817m, P95m
Map: 1:25k: 3432ET, 3531OT
Stats: 950mH, 6.5km
Time: 30 Aug 06, ascent 1:30; descent c. 1:30 via Pointe de la Sellive
Start: from NE, 5km NW from Marthod, car park at start of track, near de Raffort.
Route: ascend NE ridge, descend SE (path goes further S than mapped, then cuts back to col)
Difficulties: minor scrambling on slightly exposed NE ridge of the Dent. Descent SE to col is misleading on 1:25k, particularly 3531OT: follow paintmarked route, as direct line is too steep for safe descent. The Pointe ascent from col is steep and scrambly – cable protection is welcome on descent.
Trig point: 15cm granite block on concrete base. X inscribed on top face; has also been paintmarked as a route marker!
Notes: The Dent is a fine distinctive hill, entertaining unthreatening ridge. Limited view due to cloud. The Pointe is a shapely outlier with fine view down valley. 13 Chamois on scree in Creux de Cayon opposite path.
