Ascent Trip ReportA woods track hike with an easy bushwack ..... 7.2km, 3H00 hours RT including a lot of time to identify the HP.
Located at the very northeast corner of the County.
I followed the route taken by Derek Standen's in his TR. All was as per his TR except perhaps for the HP location .... as he says "no obvious HP".
I started my bushwack at the same spot as Derek, an open area where the track bends west, my GPS reading was 45.49972,-78.93692.
I bushwacked/followed a straight line (23 degree magnetic compass) to the summit, except for the scramble section this is an easy wack in beautiful open deciduous woods. My line took me over a false/confusing bump where my GPS told me that I had to continue. I descended to a lower area for 100M before the final climb to the summit area.
I came to a short north-south ridge that looked to be the high ground, I continued northwest finding Derek's erratic rock, his chosen HP is at the fallen tree 30M to the north of the rock. I found Derek's tape marking with an additional pink tape on the same tree. My GPS reading was exactly the same as Derek's, 45.50752,-78.93512.
I took a lot of time checking out the area and my eye-level concluded that the HP was on the north-south ridge referred-to above. The ridge is fairly flat for about 30-40M, I chose my spot at its north end, GPS 45.50712,-78.93434 (this spot is about 50M southeast of the erratic rock). I added 2 orange flags to a tree.
As reported there is nothing obvious on this summit, so the best thing to do is to touch all bases for the home run.
