Ascent Trip Report

This was number three of four with mom and dad. We stayed the previous night in San Rafael and drove up to the summit parking lot. Took about 30 minutes to drive up to the visitor center parking lot from hwy 101. it is a beautiful curvy road with splendid views of the City and surrounding areas. Views for the parking lot are spectacular although fog obscured our views somewhat. The road is well marked and we followed the directions provided by magellan gps.

The trailhead is to the left of the bathrooms and begins as a railroad ties path. Halfway through it is a rough trail but easily followed. Atop the peak is watch tower and the views are awesome. The marker is to the north side of the tower. It took about 8 minutes up and about five minutes down. I completed a loop on the way down and it is a much steeper trail and a tad shorter. This is such a short hike, I would see no need to take the steeper trail up if I did this again. I spent about 5-10 minutes at the top and then it was a 30 minute drive down the hill.
