Ascent Trip Report

Completed this as the 4th of 4 peaks in the Bay area trip with my parents. We all stood at the summit.

We entered in from Walnut Creek side and drove up the North Gate road. we followed this until we hit the ranger station, where we picked up our parking fee envelope, filled it out, deposited $10 in the envelope and deposited that in the pay slot, kept the top half and put that on the car dashboard. We continued up the road taking the left fork, following the signs to the visitor center. There is a large lighthouse type structure that serves as a major surveyor point. The true high point is within this structure, which is also the visitor center. Check the CA state park website for visitor center hours. This was a total drive up peak for me and my parents. I don't think you can get to the real high point without the visitor center being open.

The view from this peak is amazing. No wonder the legend has grown to all the different points one can see from here. I will definitely go back on one of those rare crystal clear days after a rain storm, with the hope of seeing Mt. Shasta with the aid of the quarter operated monocular.
