Ascent Trip ReportI drove my truck up to the end of the road at 8100 feet. Its a very rough road and will be a bit hard on your high clearance 4WD vehicle but it saves 2100' feet of elevation in the 4.8 miles. It is signed as the Elk Mountain road and by being able to drive it, we had only 1400' of elevation gain to get to the summit. Very few entries in the register with John Vitz and Bob Packard the two peakbaggers that we knew. Most of the others who signed in were hunters looking for that Big Elk.
